Why ConnectedCam exists

Continuity Camera is brilliant. Until it isn't.

Apple's built-in iPhone webcam is lovely on a personal Mac at home. Add a corporate VPN, a work laptop or a busy Wi-Fi network, and it has a habit of vanishing right before the call.

Your VPN is on.

Continuity Camera finds your iPhone over the network, and corporate VPNs like AnyConnect, GlobalProtect and Zscaler take over the network. The camera drops off the list, and the usual fix is an exception from IT.

ConnectedCam never touches the network. Your VPN never sees it.

Your Mac belongs to work.

Continuity Camera only works when your iPhone and Mac are signed in to the same Apple Account, with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on. A company Mac on a work account, or with Continuity switched off by IT, can't see your personal iPhone.

ConnectedCam doesn't care whose account is on either device.

The connection drops.

Wireless links stall, freeze or ask you to reconnect when Wi-Fi gets busy or Bluetooth acts up. It always seems to happen just before you present.

A cable doesn't drop out, and it keeps your iPhone charged through long calls.

Your built-in webcam looks soft.

A laptop lid only has room for a tiny camera. Your iPhone has a much better one, and probably more than one.

Use the front or rear camera, pick a lens, and send up to 4K at 60 fps.

Less is more

One job, done properly.

Most iPhone webcam apps have grown into production studios, with scenes, overlays, effects, streaming and a monthly bill. ConnectedCam does one job: a clean, sharp camera feed over USB, with the few controls you actually reach for.

  • Front or back camera

    Flip with one tap.

  • Zoom, tap to focus and exposure lock

Use them on the phone or from your Mac.

  • A preview window on your Mac

See exactly what your call sees, with the same controls.

  • Always upright

Hold the phone however you like. The picture stays the right way up.

  • Full resolution

You get what your camera can do, with no 720p cap.

How it compares

The webcam part. Nothing else.

Who it's for: people who want their iPhone to be a better webcam, and nothing more.

How it works

One cable. No network.

ConnectedCam sends video through the same USB connection Finder uses to sync your iPhone. It never goes near Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or your Mac's network settings, so there's nothing for a VPN or firewall to get in the way of.

Questions

Good to know.

Does ConnectedCam need Wi-Fi or Bluetooth?

No. Everything travels over the USB cable. You can turn Wi-Fi and Bluetooth off entirely.

Will it work with my company VPN?

Yes. ConnectedCam doesn't use the network at all, so VPNs, proxies and firewalls don't affect it.

Do my iPhone and Mac need the same Apple Account?

No. Use your personal iPhone with a work Mac, or any other combination.

What do I need?

An iPhone running iOS 17 or later, a Mac running macOS 13 Ventura or later, and a USB cable (Lightning or USB-C).

Does my iPhone charge while it streams?

Yes, over the same cable.

Which apps does it work with?

Any Mac app that lets you choose a camera. We've tested Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, FaceTime, Ecamm Live and QuickTime Player.

How much does it cost?

ConnectedCam is a one-time purchase on the App Store: no subscription, no account. The price will be announced at launch, and the Mac companion app is free.

Where does my video go?

From your iPhone, through the cable, to your Mac, and from there only to the apps you pick it in. ConnectedCam has no accounts, no analytics and no servers. Privacy details.
